Morphology of multiple constant height hydraulic fractures versus propagation regime

چکیده
The purpose of this study is to investigate morphology simultaneously propagating hydraulic fractures. Simultaneous propagation fractures occurs during stimulation horizontal wells, and, in particular, several initiation points or perforation intervals along the well are often used promote growth multiple at same time. Numerical simulations demonstrate that there situations, which stress interaction between minimal and results a very similar geometry each fracture. At time, for some other parameters, strong, so interact with develop complex shapes. By focusing on constant height fractures, it shown dimensionless parameter controls such behavior. In toughness dominated regime lead shapes, while when fluid viscosity dominates response, then more regular uniform. A series numerical examples presented illustrate findings.

Hydraulic fracture propagation: analytical solutions versus Lattice simulations
In this work, we used a grain-based numerical model based on the concept of lattice. The modelling was done to simulate the lab experiments carried out on the mortar samples. Also the analytical solutions corresponding to the viscosity-dominated regime were used to estimate the fracture length and width, and the results obtained were compared with the numerical simulations. As the analytical so...
متن کاملSeverity of playground fractures: play equipment versus standing height falls.
AIM To compare the severity of fractures from playground equipment falls to the severity of fractures from standing height falls occurring on the playground. METHODS This case control study used data on all children presenting to the Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto) from 1995 to 2002 with a fracture due to a playground fall. Cases were children who fell from a height off playground equipm...

The technology of multiple hydraulic fracture stimulation in horizontal wells has trans‐ formed the business of oil and gas exploitation from extremely tight, unconventional hydro‐ carbon bearing rock formations. The fracture stimulation process typically involves placing multiple fractures stage-by-stage along the horizontal well using diverse well completion technologies. The effective design...
متن کاملPropagation of a height contained hydraulic fracture in turbulent flow regimes
5 We investigate theoretically and numerically the impact of the transition from laminar to turbulent flow on the propagation of a height contained hydraulic fracture (i.e. PKN geometry). We account for the inertial terms in the balance of momentum and express the viscous wall shear stress via Fanning friction. The evolution of the friction factor with Reynolds number and the fracture relative ...
متن کاملRole of permeability and storage in the initiation and propagation of natural hydraulic fractures
[1] Joint sets within sedimentary basins are commonly interpreted to have formed by tensile failure in conditions where pore fluid pressure was elevated. Such tensile fractures are inferred to be a part of the process that relieves high fluid pressure by locally increasing rock permeability. In spite of the importance of this feedback mechanism, the detailed mechanics of hydraulic fracture gene...
